Trance Dance Music Mega-Track Roundup

It’s about that time again… get ready for a mega-track roundup as we’ve been saving up a bunch of killer tracks to get you on your way.  No small talk, here we go!

Masoud feat. Josie – Leave it All Behind (Tritonal’s Air Up There mix)

Leave it all behind

For those that don’t know, Josie’s the the sister of popular vocalist Jaren who made tracks such as Unforgivable and others with Armin.  Her voice suits this track from the up and coming rising star duo Tritonal from Texas, USA.  The two have cranked out over 15 tracks in 2008 and half as many remixes; here at TDM, we pay special homage to those who we feel give the trance dance music scene the dance part of it.  Their music is most similar to Ferry Corsten’s own style, (their remix of We Belong is amazing as well) and this release does not disappoint as well.  We usually put our favorite track at the end of all the reviews, but we thought we’d switch it up this time.  Premiering on ASOT 420, this track may have gone unnoticed to much of the general populace, but definitely not here at TDM.  Check it out today.

John O’ Callaghan feat. Audrey Gallagher – Take it All Away (Sean Tyas Remix)

nfa_

One of the hit tracks from JOC’s new album: never fade away, this song debuted with a Marcus Schossow remix on ASOT, but the rather lackluster beats of Marcus found its way one end of our ears and out the other.  The track was a bit too bland to be digested, but the core song just needed a remixing artist that knows how to remix (especially in the style of trance he specializes in), and that is the final finished product with the Sean Tyas remix of this track.  It’s great, amazing, and a host of other adjectives.  Cop it today.

DJ Tiesto – Louder than Boom (Extended Mix)

louder than boom

Love the artwork on the vinyl collection.  With that said, Tiesto is back to his King of Tech-Trance ways.  Killer track with an amazing break and buildups + payoffs.  I think that in all honesty, the graphic above says it all about the track.  Grade A track from Tiesto, go find it on iTunes and get it now.

Dash Berlin – Waiting (Vocal Mix)
Dash Berlin – Never Cry Again

new daylight

These two tracks are the headlining vocal tracks from Dash Berlin’s new album, which has already established vocal trance successes Man on the Run and Till the Sky Falls Down.  The editorial staff here at TDM feels these two are the two that stand out particularly in the album, and apparently so do most other DJ’s and artists (like armin, A&B etc) who have already featured them on their radio shows. If you get a chance, check the album out and especially these two tracks.

Aly & Fila – Khepera (Leon Bolier Remix)

khepera_out

Egypt’s legendary duo Aly & Fila have another hit on their hands with Khepera.  The release is combined with Leon Bolier’s amazing remix of the track.  We prefer the Bolier remix, but both are quite good.  Aly & Fila are two artists that keep pumping out exactly the type of music that we love so much here at TDM, so keep an eye on them and their radio show Future Sounds of Egypt (which also happens to be their record label name)

M6 – Deep Inside (Vocal Tech Mix)

m6 deep inside

M6 is an alias that pretty much only makes quality tunes, from when he started using the M6 alias and his first couple tracks.  This one is no different.  Beautiful melodic tech trance hit, it definitely warrants some attention for those who like smooth melodic buildups and the grating tech trance sounds we’re so familiar with from Mark Sixma regardless of if he’s producing under M6 or Re:Locate etc.

Sean Tyas – I Remember Now (Original Remix)

i remember now

Falling in line with what we said earlier about Aly & Fila, Sean Tyas recently completely reworked his old track “Remember” and re-released it as “I Remember Now” under Aly & Fila’s label FSOE.  This isn’t some minor rework or mastering and AR’ing, the only people who will remember his original song from hearing this are die-hard tyas fans.  This track definitely has much more variety and is a very strong case for the ways Tyas’s producing experience has grown.  The release comes with a Push (M.I.K.E) remix, and a Sied van Riel remix, but honestly, Tyas songs are not really meant to be remixed.  His sounds far better than the others, as they should since his songs have a pure dance element to them that MIKE and SvR do not use in their productions.  Don’t get us wrong, some of our favorite songs are plastic boy and push songs, but Tyas really brings an element of pure uplift to trance that really should not be corrupted by other artists.  Definitely a tune to check out.

Lange ft. Sarah Howells – Let it All Out

LETITALLOUT

Leave it all behind, Take it all away, Let it all out?  Is there some kind of trend with female vocalized song names?  All joking aside, this is an awesome vocal track which is the follow-up to last year’s “Out of the Sky”, which in our opinion is one of the top tracks Lange has ever produced in his many many long years of producing.  It’s a tough bar to compare any track to, and on first listen, this song does not compare.  It definitely grows on you though, and is most certainly catchy and worth taking a listen to.  Check it out if you get a chance.

First State ft. Sarah Howells – Brave (Original Mix)

first state

This is the promo song for First State’s new upcoming album, once again with Sarah Howells as the vocalist.  In a bit of a similar fashion, we did not enjoy it that much at first listen; but with a few plays, the song has become incredibly more catchy and great.  First State uses Cosmic Gate’s new bassline sound and a few other things to achieve a harmonious balance between vocals and ambient sounds.  This track gathered the highest margin of Future Favorite on ASOT with almost 50% of all votes, and if you give it a few listens you will know why.

Roger Shah & Tenishia ft. Lorilee – I’m Not God

Im not god

Yeah, there’s definitely a few artists that we love here and feature all the time (although we are not paid to!).  Roger Shah is one of those whose music does not immediately epitomize Dance Trance Music, but almost all of his beautiful balearic tracks are so melodic and driving that we feel the need to include almost all his new remixes and tracks in our reviews.  This one is no different.  Amazing vocals provided by Lorilee, his collaboration with Tenishia results in outstanding tracks on the release.  We really cannot decide if the Tenishia remix or the Roger Shah remix is better, but this is a good thing because both are great and vastly different in style.  Another magical production from his label Magic Island, get it when you can.

Ferry to Armin: Armin @ New Island Festival Governor’s Island

A week from his set at Electric Zoo, New York City had the pleasure of hosting Armin van Buuren again on Saturday on Governor’s Island in celebration of NY400, an event dedicated to the Dutch coming to Governor’s Island 400 years ago.  Being that the #1 DJ in the world is Dutch, ING and a few other corporate sponsors financed the event and made it free for everyone. While Armin’s set at ezoo was significantly shorter and a bit more ho-hum, this one had way more awesome tracks that made the place go crazy.  Top that off with 6 dollar beers, very very strong mixed drinks/drinks on the rocks, and it was one of the coolest venues I’ve seen a DJ at in a long time.  Here’s the tracklist:

1.BT feat. Jes – Every Other Way (Armin van Buuren Remix)
2.Nic Chagall feat. Jonathan Mendelsohn – This Moment (Prog Mix)
3.Michael Jackson – Stranger In Moscow (Jerome Isma-Ae Bootleg)
4.Paul van Dyk feat. Johnny McDaid – Home (Cosmic Gate Remix)
5.Armin van Buuren feat. Jennifer Rene – Fine Without You (Sied van Riel Remix)
6.Oceanlab vs Gareth Emery – On A Metropolis Day (Myon & Shane54 Mashup)
7.Cerf, Mitiska,& Jaren – Beggin’ You (Armin van Buuren Remix)
8.4 Strings – Take Me Away (Re-Ward Dub Mix)
9.Armin van Buuren vs Ali Wilson – Never Say Shakedown (Armin van Buuren Mashup)
10.Armin van Buuren vs Cosmic Gate – F.A.V. Rain (Armin van Buuren Mashup)
11.Randy Katana – You & I
12.Temple One pres. Tu Casa – Betelgeuse (Barnes & Heatcliff remix)
13.Jochen Miller – Brace Yourself
14.Purple Haze – Bliksem
15.Stoneface & Terminal vs Rex Mundi feat. Susana – Stardust Nothing At All (Armin van Buuren Remix)
16.Rank1 – Symfo vs Het Wilhelmus (Armin van Buuren Mashup)
17.Armin van Buuren vs Jochen Miller – In & Out Of Connection (Armin van Buuren Mashup)
18.RAM – Ramsterdam (Jorn van Deynhoven Remix)
19.Roger Shah & Signum – Healsville Sanctuary (Roger Shah Remix)
20.John O’Callaghan feat. Lo-Fi Sugar – Never Fade Away (Giuseppe Ottaviani Remix)
21.Gaia – Tuvan (Original Mix)
22.Alex M.O.R.P.H. feat Ana Criado – Sunset Boulevard
23.John O’ Callaghan & Giuseppe Ottaviani – Our Dimension
24.W&W & Ummet Ozcan – Synergy (Original Mix)
25.W&W – Mainstage
26.Markus Schulz – Do You Dream (Uplifting Mix)
27.Armin van Buuren & Rank1 feat. Kush – This World Is Watching Me (Cosmic Gate Remix)
28.Perpetuous Dreamer feat. Elles de Graaf – The Sound Of Goodbye (ID remix)
29.3rd Moon – Monsun
30.Armin van Buuren feat. Justine Suissa – Burned With Desire (Rising Star Remix)
Encore:
31.John O’ Callaghan feat. Sarah Howells – Find Yourself (Cosmic Gate Remix)

As you can see, the tracklist was significantly more varied, with contemporary remixes of classical tracks like Take me Away, Stranger in Moscow, and The Sound of Goodbye.  The rising star remix of burned with desire was definitely one of the major highlights of his set that I haven’t heard from him live in awhile, and brought me back to circa 2002-2003.  The prince and princess of the Netherlands took their place on stage next to the king of trance at one point in his set, and Armin even let her play with his CDJ’s a bit.  The weather could have been better, but all in all this was an amazing and fun event to go to, with some awesome beats that got the entire crowd (from babies that couldn’t even walk yet to the royal family of the Netherlands) jumping.

Stay tuned tomorrow, as the surprise you all have been waiting for will finally arrive.  To whet your appetite for what’s to come: here’s a peak at the exclusive rare set from Avalon in NYC on October 23, 2004:

Armin to Ferry, Ferry to Armin, and Exclusive Vintage Ferry Set

What an odd title, what I mean is this post is going to detail the happening of Armin to Ferry on the main stages at Electric Zoo, to taking the ferry from the financial district in Manhattan to Governor’s Island to see the ING-sponsored free Armin event there.  Oh, and we have a special surprise for our loyal readers here coming up as well…

Electric Zoo as a whole had its ups and downs, but Armin always puts on a good show.  Although the show was a bit dated in terms of tracks (~circa 3-4 months ago), it is common knowledge that Armin plays to the crowd of wherever he goes.  New York City in general is not as into the newest tracks as it is… other pursuits, but he sneaked a few nice gems in the set nevertheless.  As Sirius XM recorded and broadcasted the entire 2 day festival, you can find the sets all over the internet (Google electric zoo [artist] download).  Some of the download links will be expired or taken down because Sirius is serious (pun intended) about their copyright protection.  As such, we will not host such files here, and leave it to the disposable blogs to do so.  Here is the tracklist for his set:

01. Gaia – Tuvan (Intro Mix)
02. Fabio XB & Ronnie Play feat. Gabriel Cage – Inside Of You (Cosmic Gate Remix)
03. Ali Wilson vs. Armin van Buuren feat. Jacqueline Govaert – Never Say Shakedown (Armin van Buuren Mashup)
04. M6 – Opus Sectrum
05. Rank 1 – Symfo
06. OceanLab vs. Gareth Emery – On A Metropolis Day (Myon & Shane 54 Mashup)
07. Temple One pres. Tu Casa – Betelgeuse (Barnes & Heatcliff Remix)
08. Jochen Miller – Brace Yourself
09. Cosmic Gate vs. Armin van Buuren feat. Cathy Burton – F.A.V. Rain (Armin van Buuren Mashup)
10. Armin van Buuren feat. Jaren – Unforgivable (Stoneface & Terminal Dub)
11. Neptune Project – Aztec
12. Roger Shah & Signum – Healesville Sanctuary (Roger Shah Mix)
13. John O’Callaghan feat. Lo-Fi Sugar – Never Fade Away (Giuseppe Ottaviani Remix)
14. Ram – Ramsterdam (Jorn van Deynhoven Remix)
15. Alex M.O.R.P.H. feat. Ana Criado – Sunset Boulevard
16. Stoneface & Terminal vs. Rex Mundi feat. Susana – Stardust At All (Armin van Buuren Mashup)
17. Darren Tate vs. Jono Grant – Let The Light Shine In (Filo & Peri 2009 Edit)
18. ID
19. Guy Mearns – Sunbeam
20. Thomas Bronzwaer – Look Ahead
21. Armin van Buuren – Communication (Part 3)
22. Ummet Ozcan – Timewave Zero
23. 3rd Moon – Monsun

Encore:
24. Jochen Miller vs. Armin van Buuren feat. Sharon den Adel – In & Out Of Connection (Armin van Buuren Mashup)

Some things that jump out at us were On a Metropolis Day, Jochen Miller, Healesville Sanctuary, Ramsterdam (although the original mix is better), Look Ahead, and of course Communication Part 3 has always and will always be an amazing live track.

That said, the rest of the set was a bit uninspired and the encore is an absolutely stupid track.  The entire crew had fun in VIP though, big thanks to all parties involved that made it possible for us to cover the event there.

Ferry Corsten was day 2, and on paper, it looked like day 2 was going to kick some major butt compared to day 1.  A few DJs the first day surprised the crew here pleasantly with some good beats and likewise, day 2 was a bit disappointing as well.  Menno de Jong was probably the only other artist worthy of mention aside from Ferry.  Markus is probably the most overrated and boring DJ’s to listen to.  James Holden, Josh Gabriel, etc are all very experimental in live sets, and do not even get us started on ATB; it might as well have been called the cheese mainstream tent while he was spinning.  Although Holden did not (to our knowledge) play his famous track a Break in the Clouds, that was exactly what Ferry was on that second day – A break in the cloud of horrible sets.

Now, looking at the tracklist we’re about to post, you may think to yourself that it looks more like a promo tape than a varied and awesome set.  Make no mistake, I must admit that I find an artist playing 90% his own tracks and remixes in his set to be quite pompous and arrogant indeed.  The only difference with Ferry is that he is that talented that he can string together a set full of his own productions and remixes and have it come off varied, with fluctuations in flow, style, etc.  so that it does not sound like 1 long uplift or generic trance song.  It is quite arrogant, yet the track selection, mixing, and timing of each track was so spot on we couldn’t help but have it make up for the rest of the lackluster Sunday festival.  Here is Mr. Arrogant, in all his glory:

1. Ferry Corsten – Gabriella’s Sky (Original Extended Mix)
2. Ferry Corsten Featuring Betsie Larkin – Made of Love (Original Extended Mix)
3. Breakfast – Air Guitar
4. Ferry Corsten – Beautiful (Original Extended Mix)
5. Ferry Corsten – Twice in a Blue Moon (Festival Edit)
6. Ferry Corsten – Brain Box
7. Ferry Corsten – Shanti
8. Ferry Corsten Featuring Maria Nayler – We Belong (Tritonal Air Up There Remix)
9. Cataracta – Primitus
10. System F – Out of The Blue (Remix)
11. Bobina – Invisible Touch (Ferry Corsten’s Touch)
12. Ferry Corsten – Radio Crash

The last two get cut off with annoying yelling and interviews, but what a great way to end his set
13. Ferry Corsten – L.E.F.
14. Ferry Corsten – Rock Your Body, Rock

While we did not attend his afterparty at Pacha, we heard from multiple credible sources that he absolutely killed it there as well.  Ferry does not disappoint live.  And to give you a hint, our exclusive offer for our readers we worked out with the staff at a club he played at in 2004 is one of the best live events we had been to, and they have allowed us to bring it to you FREE of charge.  Stay tuned, because Friday you will be rocking your body to an amazing yet rare live set.  You won’t even have to download from some shady site like rapidshare or depositfiles.

Stay tuned tomorrow to see the Ferry to Armin, and then Friday for the exclusive thanks for reading gift to you guys for following us so closely.  Keep the comments and feedback coming.

Free Armin Event in NYC

What a crazy weekend at Electric Zoo, many thanks to all the supporters who came out for it.  It was great to put some faces with our readers.  We will have a whole installation in time for you reviewing both days in full, but for now here is a little bonus for everyone who may have missed it or simply can’t get enough of Armin:

New York City’s very own New Island Festival is celebrating 400 years since the Dutch have come to Governor’s Island, and in commemoration of that, they are throwing a free concert by Armin van Buuren this Saturday September 12, 2009 at the Water Taxi Beach in Governor’s Island.  The only cost associated with this is a $10 dollar round trip ticket to/from the island via water taxi, and you can purchase tickets here.  He will be spinning from 1 PM to 5 PM, Water Taxis start at 11 AM.  While not all of the staff will be out at this one, a decent amount of us will be out in full force (mainly for selfish reasons) to cover the event.  As always, shoot us a line if you’re going to be there.  You can check out all the festival details by going to the official site at: http://www.newislandfestival.com/artist/1295/armin-van-buuren.
